PTI KP President Junaid Akbar detained during Gilgit-Baltistan campaign

GILGIT: PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Junaid Akbar Khan was detained during the election campaign in Gilgit-Baltistan.

According to reports, Gilgit-Baltistan Police took Junaid Akbar Khan into custody at Hunza, where he was campaigning ahead of the regional elections.

Speaking after the incident, Junaid Akbar said authorities informed him that he did not possess the required no-objection certificate (NOC) and directed him to leave Gilgit.

Meanwhile, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan condemned the detention, calling it “pre-poll rigging” and criticising efforts to stop party leaders from participating in the election campaign.

Barrister Gohar said political leaders should be allowed to travel freely across the country and warned that restricting political space in Gilgit-Baltistan would damage democracy.

He also urged the Election Commission to ensure equal opportunities for all parties to conduct their election campaigns.
