Pakistan likely to see fresh rainfall from June 11

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an impact-based weather advisory, warning that severe heatwave conditions are expected to persist across large parts of Pakistan until June 12, while rain and strong winds are likely to affect northern and upper regions later this week.

According to the NDMA’s latest assessment, temperatures are expected to remain significantly above seasonal averages in several parts of the country, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses, water shortages, and pressure on power infrastructure. The authority urged provincial administrations and the public to take precautionary measures to minimize the impact of extreme weather conditions.

The advisory stated that Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan are likely to experience the most intense heat over the coming days, with daytime temperatures expected to rise further. Residents in these regions have been advised to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours and ensure adequate hydration.

Meanwhile, Islamabad, northern Punjab, and upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are also expected to remain under the influence of a strong heatwave from June 7 to June 10. The NDMA noted that temperatures in central and southern Punjab could remain considerably higher than normal, increasing health risks for vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and outdoor workers.

The authority, however, forecast a change in weather conditions beginning June 11, as a weather system is expected to bring rain and gusty winds to several northern and upper parts of the country. Areas likely to receive rainfall include Islamabad and various districts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the forecast, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, and Lahore may witness rain accompanied by strong winds on June 11 and 12. The expected precipitation could provide temporary relief from the ongoing heatwave, although localized windstorms may also cause disruptions in some areas.

In Sindh, weather conditions are expected to remain predominantly hot and dry. Major cities including Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, and Tharparkar are likely to continue experiencing high temperatures throughout the forecast period.

Similarly, most parts of Balochistan are expected to remain under hot and dry conditions. However, the NDMA indicated that northeastern districts, particularly Zhob and Musakhel, could receive light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms on June 11 and 12.
