CHITRAL: A three-day polo festival has officially begun in Chitral at what is considered the world’s highest polo ground, marking the start of one of the region’s most celebrated sporting events.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as the chief guest, who highlighted tourism promotion as a key priority of the provincial government.
The festival has attracted tourists from across Pakistan and abroad, reflecting growing international interest in the traditional mountain sport.
Teams from Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan competed in the opening matches, showcasing fast-paced and competitive polo action.
Officials said the event aims to promote tourism, cultural heritage, and sports activities in the northern regions of Pakistan.
Governor Faisal Karim Kundi said efforts are underway to improve infrastructure, including roads and other facilities, in coordination with the federal government and the National Highway Authority (NHA) to support tourism development.
