The National Assembly has approved the Pakistan Telecommunication Reorganization (Amendment) Bill 2025.
Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja presented the bill before the House. Lawmakers also approved an amendment proposed by government member Huma Akhtar Chughtai through a majority vote. While Chughtai did not explain the amendment during the session, the IT minister later clarified that it changes the retirement age limit for judges serving on the Appellate Tribunal.
The Assembly also adopted amendments introduced by PPP lawmaker Syed Naveed Qamar. He proposed three changes to the bill, including a provision related to future disputes over right-of-way permissions for laying fiber-optic infrastructure needed for 5G networks.
Qamar argued that provincial and relevant local governments should have the authority to resolve such disputes, and the House approved his proposed amendments.
