Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Thursday chaired a meeting to review preparations for the upcoming visit of Uzbek Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev, with officials focusing on transport links, trade, investment and regional connectivity, sources said.
Khodjaev is scheduled to visit Pakistan on July 20 and 21.
The meeting reviewed proposals to improve road and rail connectivity between Pakistan and Uzbekistan and increase the capacity of regional transport corridors.
Officials also discussed measures to strengthen logistics infrastructure and facilitate the movement of goods between the two countries.
A five-year economic cooperation roadmap is expected to be signed during the visit, according to sources.
The proposed roadmap will set priorities for expanding bilateral trade, attracting investment and improving regional connectivity.
Sources said Pakistan and Uzbekistan had also finalised several agreements and memorandums of understanding for signing during the visit.
A Pakistan-Uzbekistan business-to-business forum will be held as part of the programme.
More than 100 major Uzbek companies are expected to participate in the forum, which will bring together business leaders and investors from both countries.
The discussions will focus on potential cooperation and investment in agriculture, pharmaceuticals, transport, logistics and industrial development.
Officials said the visit was expected to provide fresh momentum to economic ties and create opportunities for companies in both countries.
Pakistan and Uzbekistan have been seeking stronger overland trade links through Central Asia and Afghanistan as part of broader efforts to improve regional connectivity and reduce transportation costs.
