PTI rejects AJK polls

A joint meeting of the Core Committee and Political Committee of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) discussed the overall political situation and recent Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections, it was reported on Wednesday.

The committees completely rejected the so-called Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections as a mockery of democratic values, the public mandate, and electoral transparency. They expressed deep sorrow and anger that unarmed citizens on the public march were fired upon, baton-charged, and shelled, martyring several and injuring dozens. Heartfelt condolences were offered to the martyrs’ families, with prayers for the injured. They demanded an immediate, transparent, and impartial investigation to bring those responsible to justice.

It is regrettable that while Kashmiris demanded their rights on the streets and lay covered in blood, the Muslim League (N) and People’s Party focused on power politics and seat division. History shows that when an innocent falls, the state’s moral dignity is wounded. Those who play with Kashmiri blood for power will never be forgiven by history.

The people of Azad Kashmir have completely rejected the Muslim League (N) and Pakistan People’s Party.

Extremely low turnout proves they refused this electoral process and its backers. PTI’s boycott decision has been fully vindicated; non-participation rejected both the process and the imposed system.

The committees rejected recent political slogans by the Muslim League (N) and People’s Party leadership, clarifying that Kashmir will neither become Lahore nor Karachi. Kashmir is the jugular vein of Pakistan—it was, is, and always will be. Turning the sacred Kashmir issue into a tool for political interests and election slogans is unacceptable.

Preparations for the grand public gathering in Peshawar on 5 August were reviewed. The committees resolved to fully reflect the people’s aspirations. Through consultation and coordination with allied parties, an effective, organised, and comprehensive public and political action plan will be announced to advance the struggle to restore the Constitution, the rule of law, and democracy.

The committees strongly condemned the continued denial of Founder Chairman Imran Khan’s basic human and constitutional rights.

Deep concern was expressed over his denied access to family, legal team, and party leadership, plus unnecessary obstacles to medical examinations and treatment—open violations of human rights and court orders. They demanded he immediately receive all legal, constitutional, and human rights.
