The entire staff of the Ghaziabad police station in Lahore, including the Station House Officer (SHO), has been suspended following the alleged sexual assault of a beggar girl by an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) posted at the station, it was reported on Tuesday.
DIG Operations Faisal Kamran visited the police station late at night and ordered the suspension of the SHO and the entire station staff, citing delays in taking action against the accused and keeping senior officers uninformed about the case.
SHO Ghaziabad Shahryar was suspended and replaced by Ali Zaib Dastgir as the new SHO.
According to details, the DIG Operations suspended 78 personnel in total, including sub-inspectors, eight ASIs and five head constables. Front desk staff, the station munshi (record-keeper), and drivers were also among those suspended.
An FIR has been registered regarding the suspension of the SHO and other personnel at Ghaziabad police station.
The action follows an incident two days earlier in which ASI Imran, attached to the investigation wing, allegedly sexually assaulted a disabled beggar girl.
As per the FIR, ASI Imran brought the girl to Ghaziabad Police Station on a motorcycle. When the gatekeeper asked the ASI about the girl, the ASI replied that he brought the girl for investigation.
ASI Imran later took the girl to Investigation Room No. 4 and raped her. Later, the ASI dropped the girl by himself.
Meanwhile, a call was received from the heirs of the girl stating that the girl was returned to her home.
Police subsequently registered a case against the ASI and arrested him.
