ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah has said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will form the government in Azad Jammu and Kashmir with a two-thirds majority, warning that those attempting to disrupt the elections and playing into the hands of the enemy will face legal action.
PML-N will form AJK government with two-thirds majority
Addressing a press conference alongside Federal Minister Engineer Amir Muqam, Rana Sanaullah said the third phase of the AJK elections was underway and those staging sit-ins should realize that they had failed to stop the electoral process.
He said the elected government would reconsider legitimate demands, but those misleading the people of Azad Kashmir would have to face the law.
Rana Sanaullah said an attempt was made to halt polling at three polling stations in one constituency, alleging that efforts were being made to turn defeat into victory through allegations of rigging.
He also said that a member had died, but clarified that the person had passed away due to a heart condition.
The PML-N leader reiterated that his party would form the government in Azad Kashmir with a heavy majority. He said Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leaders had been making allegations of rigging both today and previously but had failed to provide evidence.
Rana Sanaullah said the PPP had described phased elections as evidence of rigging, despite having agreed that the elections should be conducted in phases.
He said the AJK Election Commission had accepted the PPP’s own demand regarding phased polling.
Rana Sanaullah further said the PPP had not held meetings or rallies on any seat in Punjab, questioning its objections to the electoral process.
He termed attempts to disrupt peaceful elections undemocratic and said PML-N leadership had demonstrated political generosity following the Gilgit-Baltistan elections.
He expressed hope that the PPP leadership would reverse its “countdown” narrative and congratulate the PML-N on its victory.
Sit-in protesters urged to surrender
Rana Sanaullah said those staging sit-ins had failed to achieve their objectives and urged them to surrender themselves to the law.
He warned that those playing into the hands of the enemy would face legal consequences, adding that action would be taken against elements who had taken up arms.
Amir Muqam accuses opponents of preparing script
Federal Minister Engineer Amir Muqam said those making allegations had prepared a “script” since the previous night and began issuing statements from 9am.
He questioned what political opponents gained from making such allegations and said their claims should be assessed against the public participation in PML-N rallies.
Amir Muqam also responded to allegations that police and people had been brought from Punjab for a specific purpose, asking whether people had not also arrived from Sindh.
He maintained that the PML-N would emerge victorious in the elections and said the peaceful conduct of polling under the prevailing circumstances in Azad Kashmir deserved appreciation.
He also urged political opponents to reflect on why voters had not supported them.
