TEHRAN: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran, with the two sides discussing bilateral relations and the situation in the region.
According to sources, Naqvi conveyed a special and important message from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir to President Pezeshkian regarding the prevailing situation.
According to Iranian media sources, the interior minister also briefed the Iranian president on the recent joint defence agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye in Makkah. Naqvi took President Pezeshkian into confidence regarding the agreement.
Iranian media sources said Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has been in continuous contact with senior officials from the Gulf countries, Iran and the United States. The field marshal is leading peace negotiations in the region, while Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi is assisting him.
Earlier, speaking after meeting Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran was ready to pave the way for joint cooperation with Pakistan. He said strengthening bilateral relations would ensure mutual interests and reinforce regional security and stability.
He said stronger relations with Pakistan could contribute to greater regional security.
President Pezeshkian said the interest and goodwill shown by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other Pakistani officials in strengthening and expanding ties with Iran were highly valued by Tehran. He said Iran was interested in expanding relations with Pakistan in all fields and was ready to pave the way for joint cooperation.
He said enhancing bilateral relations and deepening cooperation would ensure mutual interests while also strengthening regional security and stability.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said Pakistan-Iran relations were strong and unbreakable. He said Islamabad was taking steps with a serious commitment to comprehensively expand its relations with Tehran.
Earlier, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, during which the regional situation was discussed.
