Russia’s Central Election Commission Chairperson Ella Pamfilova held bilateral talks with the heads of electoral authorities from Pakistan, Kazakhstan and Türkiye, with discussions focusing on election-related cooperation and coordination.
During her meeting with Pakistan’s Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, Pamfilova discussed arrangements for a Pakistani delegation to observe Russia’s upcoming parliamentary elections.
The Russian parliamentary elections are scheduled to take place from September 18 to 20. The proposed Pakistani delegation is expected to observe the electoral process and gain first-hand insight into the conduct of the polls.
The discussions also provided an opportunity for the two sides to exchange views on election administration and the role of international observers. Election observation can help delegations understand polling arrangements, voting procedures and other aspects of the electoral process.
The engagement between the two election authorities reflects continued institutional-level interaction between Pakistan and Russia. Such exchanges can contribute to greater understanding of electoral practices and strengthen cooperation between election management bodies.
Pamfilova’s separate meetings with electoral officials from Kazakhstan and Türkiye also highlighted Russia’s engagement with election authorities in other countries.
The upcoming Russian parliamentary elections are expected to involve extensive preparations across the country. The participation of international observers would provide an opportunity for representatives from foreign electoral institutions to witness the process directly.
For Pakistan, sending a delegation would allow its election officials to observe Russia’s arrangements and procedures during the polling period. It could also provide a platform for exchanging experiences on election management and administration.
