Fashion and beauty influencer Aidaah Sheikh has spoken out against the growing culture of online harassment and Cyberbully.
The beauty guru called out social media users and public figures to stop normalizing abusive behaviour as mere “opinions.”
In her video message, Aidaah said body shaming, personal attacks and harassment have become common on the internet and people often use freedom of expression as an excuse to target others.
Aidaah questioned the audacity of internet trolls who criticize successful women over their weight and appearance despite having no understanding of their personal struggles or achievements.
She also introduced the term “cyber bully-casters” for individuals who hold a microphone and present themselves as podcasters while using their platforms to spread negativity and attack others.
According to Aidaah, genuinely happy people do not spend their time hating others.
She added that those who constantly target people online may themselves be unhappy with their lives and frustrated by things not working out for them.
Addressing public figures, she urged them to block and mass report accounts involved in harassment, regardless of their follower count or level of fame.
She reminded once again that the internet is already a frightening place and bullying does not make anyone appear intelligent or funny.
Concluding her message, Aidaah said the world already has enough opinions and can easily do without one more.
