PESHAWAR: Security forces have killed five terrorists and wounded two others in an intelligence-based operation in North Waziristan, security sources said.
The operation was carried out against alleged militants affiliated with Fitna al-Khawarij in parts of North Waziristan and nearby areas, according to the sources.
Security forces had been monitoring the movement of the militants and subsequently launched what the sources described as a targeted operation against their positions.
President Asif Ali Zardari commended the security forces for the operation, praising their professional capabilities and response against militant elements. He said such operations were helping prevent militants from carrying out their objectives.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also expressed appreciation for the security forces, saying they had taken timely and decisive action against the militants.
The prime minister said operations against Fitna al-Khawarij would continue until terrorism was eliminated, reiterating that lasting peace and the eradication of terrorism were among the government’s key priorities under the Azm-e-Istehkam vision.
