Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met President Asif Ali Zardari, with senior leaders from both sides also present, sources said.
The meeting took place after the conferral of the Nishan-e-Imtiaz upon the United Nations secretary-general.
Sources said the country’s overall political and security situation was discussed during the meeting.
The situation arising from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf long march in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also came under discussion.
Members of the negotiating committee briefed the president and the prime minister on the situation, according to sources.
The two sides agreed to continue the consultation process before taking any constitutional or legal step, sources said.
