Raja Nasir Abbas accuses government of mixing politics with security in KP emergency

Allama Raja Nasir Abbas told the Senate that the government had mixed political issues with security matters while imposing an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, accusing it of undermining the Constitution and the public mandate.

Speaking during the Senate session, Raja Nasir Abbas said Pakistan was a federation, not a monarchy, and that both Islamic principles and democracy must be respected under the country’s constitutional system.

“Pakistan is an Islamic republic, not a monarchy,” he said, adding that the Constitution represented all federating units of the country.

He criticised constitutional amendments made through intimidation, saying the Constitution had been made controversial before the world.

“Are we showing loyalty to Pakistan by violating the Constitution?” he questioned.

Raja Nasir Abbas said power belonged to Allah and questioned whether those violating the Constitution deserved the trust placed in them.

He said an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty prevailed in the country, while government ministers were accusing political opponents of being afraid to come out.

He accused those in power of considering themselves victorious despite the prevailing political situation.

Referring to the PTI founder, Raja Nasir Abbas questioned whether seeking to meet him was a crime.

He accused the government of mixing security concerns with political disputes and questioned the speed with which an emergency was imposed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He also referred to an earlier agreement and the government’s handling of political and security issues.

Raja Nasir Abbas accused the government of having already deprived PTI of its public mandate.

He said the law and order situation in Balochistan was worse than in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and called for an emergency to be imposed in Balochistan.

The senator said political forces had made numerous sacrifices but had not resorted to civil war.

He said political leaders had demonstrated patience and tolerance despite their differences with the government.
