ISLAMABAD: The Federal Cabinet has approved the establishment of a ‘Regional Representative and Development Council’ for 12 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
A formal notification regarding the new council members will be issued by the Federal Government shortly. The selection of the 48 representatives for the Regional Representative and Development Council across these 12 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was carried out through mutual consultation among jirgas (traditional tribal councils).
In all 12 districts, jirgas were held—with the support of the Deputy Commissioner—to nominate council members who are respected and favored by the local population. The names of the council members nominated through these *jirgas* were processed by the Additional Chief Secretary/Administrator of the Area Development Secretariat. Following consultations, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Area Development Secretariat forwarded the names of the nominees to the Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa forwarded the list to the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following further processing of the names. The Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa transmitted the names of the nominated council members to the Federal Government.
