Sindh CM Shah says no majority supports creation of new provinces

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has said there is currently no majority in favour of creating new provinces in the country.

Speaking to the media at the inauguration of a modern landfill site in Jam Chakro, Shah said the project aimed to keep Karachi clean. He said five modern cells were being constructed at the Jam Chakro landfill site, with work scheduled for completion by December. Karachi’s waste would be disposed of scientifically and systematically at the facility. The modern waste management system would help address environmental problems and eliminate foul smells. Similar internationally standard waste disposal points would also be established in other districts of the city.

Responding to a question, Shah said imposing governor’s rule was constitutional but not democratic. He added that nobody wanted to remove an elected provincial government. He said terrorism was currently the country’s biggest challenge, asking what could be said when terrorism persisted while provinces opposed action against it.

The Sindh chief minister reiterated that there was no majority in favour of creating new provinces.

Regarding the Mir Raza case, Shah said the provincial cabinet had decided to establish a judicial commission to investigate the matter. He added that the cabinet would open the sealed envelope containing the commission’s report and make a decision accordingly.
