Pakistan’s National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reportedly launched inquiries into development projects financial assets and recruitment practices linked to former provincial government officials according to a report by Minute Mirror.
Former chief ministers Sohail Afridi and Ali Amin Gandapur former minister Fazal Hakim and former housing special assistant Dr Amjad Ali are among the political figures whose records are reportedly being sought as part of the inquiries.
According to sources cited in the report NAB has requested details of development schemes approved during Sohail Afridi’s tenure from the Communication and Works Department. The bureau is examining project budgets, contractor selection, tendering procedures, completion schedules and possible additional payments.
Other departments including the Revenue Department, Peshawar Development Authority and relevant housing authorities have reportedly been asked to provide information about land allotments, building approvals and the use of public funds.
The report also describes an inquiry into assets allegedly beyond known sources of income. NAB is said to be collecting information about bank accounts, properties, vehicles and other financial holdings associated with the named individuals. Relevant records are reportedly being requested from government departments and financial institutions.
Dr Amjad Ali has reportedly received five notices in connection with the assets inquiry. According to the report, he was asked to appear at NAB’s Peshawar office between October 20 and 22, 2026 and provide details of his income properties and financial transactions. Four individuals have also reportedly been summoned to give statements concerning housing schemes, allotments and contracts.
Separately, NAB is reportedly examining recruitment practices in departments associated with development and housing projects. The inquiry may cover daily-wage and contractual appointments as well as allegations of favouritism in recruitment. These allegations have not been established through a judicial finding.
The developments follow recent proceedings at the Peshawar High Court concerning a petition over Sohail Afridi’s alleged detention or recovery according to the supplied report.
NAB’s position as described by the publication is that officials are collecting records before deciding whether further investigative action is warranted. A source close to Dr Amjad Ali maintained that his assets were lawful and described the proceedings as politically motivated. PTI representatives also criticised the timing of the reported inquiries.
The next steps are expected to include reviewing departmental records comparing financial disclosures and determining whether sufficient grounds exist for formal investigations. No conclusion about wrongdoing can be drawn solely from the reported requests for information.
