Section 144 imposed in both South Waziristan districts

Authorities in Upper and Lower South Waziristan have imposed Section 144 restrictions, shutting markets and restricting movement on several roads amid security concerns and arrangements for transporting supplies to security forces.

Separate notifications were issued on Friday evening by Lower South Waziristan Deputy Commissioner Musarrat Zaman and Upper South Waziristan Deputy Commissioner Irfan Ali. The restrictions were enforced for Saturday and covered several localities, routes and commercial areas.

In Lower South Waziristan, the administration imposed restrictions in Wana Bazaar, the Wana Bypass and other areas. The measures were introduced to address security concerns and ensure the safe movement of logistical supplies for security personnel.

Movement was prohibited on several routes passing through Wana, Tiarza Gate, Karab Kot, Tanai, Azizabad Chowk and Dargai Bridge. Roads connecting Gul Kach with Toi Khullah and Tanai were also included in the restrictions.

The administration said travel on the affected routes would only be allowed in emergencies and with prior permission from the police or security forces. Residents were advised to avoid unnecessary movement and follow official instructions.

Motorists were also directed to stop their vehicles at least 50 metres away when they encountered security forces. Authorities warned that violations of the restrictions could lead to legal action under the relevant laws.

In Upper South Waziristan, Section 144 was imposed in Servekai and Sararogha tehsils and surrounding areas. The order also directed the closure of markets and commercial centres as part of security arrangements linked to the transportation of supplies for security forces.

The restrictions covered routes leading to Ladha, Makeen, Sararogha and Nazar Khel, as well as roads connecting Dargai Bridge, Madi Jan, Sheen Warsak and Jandola. Routes passing through Servekai, Moley Khan Sarai, Barwand, Asman Manza and Torwam were also affected.

Residents were instructed to avoid travelling through restricted areas until the relevant authorities allowed movement. Emergency travel could be permitted after authorisation from the police or security forces and verification of identity documents.

The administration made special arrangements for polio vaccination teams, allowing their members to travel through the affected areas after establishing their identities.

Motorists in Upper South Waziristan were also instructed to stop at least 50 metres away from security forces and ensure that all occupants got out of their vehicles.

Both district administrations urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and comply with the restrictions. People needing to travel for emergencies were advised to obtain permission before entering the affected routes.

Section 144 allows district authorities to restrict public movement and certain activities in specific areas when required to maintain public order and security. The latest measures aim to facilitate security operations and the safe transportation of supplies in the two districts.
