Punjab e-bike scheme Phase 2 distribution begins November 5

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced that the distribution of electric bikes under Phase 2 of the Punjab E-Bike Scheme 2026 will begin on November 5, offering financial support to students across the province.

The scheme aims to provide more than 125,000 electric bikes to students and young people in all 36 districts of Punjab. The initiative is designed to make daily travel easier and more affordable for students attending educational institutions.

According to the scheme details, the application process for Phase 2 closed on October 4. The programme reportedly received more than 1.3 million registrations and over 600,000 applications, highlighting strong interest among students.

Under the financing plan, eligible students will be able to obtain electric bikes without making an initial down payment. The bikes will be offered through a three-year, interest-free instalment plan, with monthly payments expected to be around Rs3,000.

The Punjab government will provide a subsidy of Rs90,000 for each bike. It will also cover insurance, registration and token tax costs to reduce the financial burden on beneficiaries.

The electric bikes included in the scheme feature a 72V 30Ah lithium iron phosphate battery and a 1,000-watt motor. Their estimated maximum speed ranges from 50 to 55 kilometres per hour.

Students enrolled in public and private educational institutions may qualify for the scheme, subject to its eligibility requirements.

Maryam Nawaz announced the distribution date in a Facebook post, describing the development as good news for students. The first phase of distribution is scheduled to begin on November 5, although further details about the distribution process may be announced separately.
