We won’t bow down before global powers now: PM Imran

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday said that we used to bow down before global powers in the past but will not bow down now.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony of the Digital Media Development Program on Friday, he said that we are heading towards making Pakistan like Riyasat-e-Madina (a welfare state).

He said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government wants to make the country a dignified and self-sufficient state.

The PM urged the youth not to underestimate themselves and asked to always set big targets for them. “Young people are the future of the country, Quaid-e-Azam, Nelson Mandela did not do politics for themselves and people will always remember Quaid-e-Azam, Mandela,” he said.

VISITS ISI HEADQUARTERS: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Friday has paid a visit to Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) headquarters.

During the visit, the prime minister was accompanied by the federal ministers, the chief ministers of Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Amjad Khan Niazi, and Chief of the Air Staff Air Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu were also present in the meeting.

Director General ISI (DG-ISI) Lieutenant General Faiz Hamid welcomed the participants.

The civil-military leadership was given a detailed briefed on the national security and the changes taking place in the region over the context of the latest situation in Afghanistan.

PM Imran Khan appreciated the professionalism of the ISI against the challenges posed to national security in the session.

SAYS TALIBAN CAN BE AMERICA’S PARTNERS FOR PEACE: Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that the Taliban can be potential partners in peace for both the United States and Pakistan, as he termed American President Joe Biden’s hard line against the group as “unnecessary”.

In an interview with Newsweek’s Senior Foreign Policy Writer Tom O’Connor, PM Imran Khan said Pakistan is a “willing companion” of the US in counterterrorism and other endeavours.

The premier noted that cooperation between regional powers and the United States is crucial in avoiding a catastrophe, as the dynamics had evolved quickly after the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan in mid-August.

Talking about the Taliban assuming complete power for the first time in 40 years, he said this might lead to a stable security situation in the country.

The premier hoped the Taliban government would open up possibilities for trade and development projects.

“Pakistan desires to promote a comprehensive, not selective, approach to neutralising terrorists’ threats from Afghanistan. We will cooperate with the international community, including the US, in this effort,” he said.

‘LOW-COST MORTGAGES TO BE APPROVED FIRST TIME IN PAKISTAN’: The State Bank of Pakistan has permitted Rs69 billion in loan to financing schemes for the Naya Pakistan Housing & Development Authority (NAPHDA).

These loans will facilitate low-income breadwinners in building their own house, quoted the authority chairman in a briefing on Friday.

Chairman NAPDA Lt Gen (retd) Anwar Ali Haider called on Prime Minister Imran Khan and extended on the development of low-cost housing projects in the country under the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf-led project.

PM Imran Khan uttered gratification over the low-cost housing project said the establishment of low-cost housing for people was among the top urgencies of the government.
