ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Police on Friday arrested PTI founder Imran Khan’s sisters Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan in D-Chowk.
According to details, Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan were arrested in D-Chowk during the PTI protest call as Section 144 was already imposed in the federal capital. Both the sisters of former prime minister were shifted to the police station.
Earlier, several incidents of clashes were reported between the PTI workers and police. The police also fired the tear gas shells to disperse the PTI workers who were adamant to reach the D-Chowk.
Meanwhile, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi stated that the PTI’s desire to stage a protest at D-Chowk would not be materialised.
Speaking to the media at D-Chowk, Naqvi said that he had requested yesterday that no protests be held. He said that the government wanted to convey to foreign guests that they were visiting a peaceful country.
The interior minister mentioned that none of his police officers were armed and, if any shots were fired, they would identify the source. He pointed out that videos showed people coming with weapons, but the government’s strategy would not be disclosed in advance.
He further mentioned that 63 Afghans had been arrested so far, noting that Afghan nationals were also detained during the previous protest.
Absolutely clear PTI supporters ‘invading’ Islamabad: interior minister
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said that he was very clear that PTI’s supporters wanted to “inavde” Islamabad.
Talking to journalists at D-Chowk, the interior minister said that everyone has the right to protest but the PTI activists are “coming with weapons to attack”.
“We will not allow anyone to damage property. Yesterday, we requested them not to hold rallies or protests at this time.”
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur is a Pakistani citizen and he should reconsider his actions, he said, adding that he can record his party’s protest anywhere inside his province.
Gandapur vows to reach D-Chowk at all costs
Lashing out at the federal government, KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur said that police were firing tear gas shells at “peaceful” political workers.
“Several [PTI protesters] sustained injures due to firing and shelling by the police personnel,” he claimed.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister vowed to reach the Islamabad’s D-Chowk at all costs. He further said that the injured were being shifted to nearby hospitals.
