47 Palestinians killed overnight in Israeli strikes in central Gaza, says Palestinian news agency

GAZA: Forty seven Palestinians were killed and dozens injured overnight, most of them children and women, in Israeli bombardment on the city of Deir Al-Balah, the Nuseirat camp and the town of Al-Zawayda in the central Gaza Strip, the Palestinian news agency WAFA reported on Friday.

Israeli army to remain in Gaza ‘for many years’, says Smotrich

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has said that “Gaza must be reoccupied”.

“The Israeli army will remain in the Gaza Strip for many years to ensure security,” Smotrich said, in an interview with Israel’s Makor Rishon newspaper, reported Al Jazeera.

Pentagon chief discusses de-escalation with Israeli counterpart

US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin discussed “opportunities for regional de-escalation” with his Israeli counterpart Yoav Gallant during a phone call, the Pentagon said on Thursday, amid the conflict in the Middle East.

Austin “also reviewed steps Israel is taking and should continue to advance to improve the dire humanitarian conditions in Gaza, and prospects for a hostage release and ceasefire deal,” according to the readout.

US sees ‘another looming crisis’ for Palestine by Nov 30

The US government on Thursday said Israel’s decision to sign a waiver to extend cooperation between Israeli and Palestinian banks for another month was for a “very short term duration” and would create “another looming crisis” by November 30.

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich’s spokesman said on Thursday he will sign a waiver to extend cooperation between Israeli and Palestinian banks for another month after the cabinet agreed.
