Quantum of Solace star Gemma Arterton revealed her opinion on a female Bond. The actress played Strawberry Fields in the 2008 film opposite Daniel Craig as James Bond.
“Isn’t a female James Bond like Mary Poppins being played by a man?” Gemma remarked in an interview with The Times.
“They talk about it, but I think people would find it too outrageous. Sometimes you just have to respect the tradition.”
She also expressed wonderment at how the small role has followed her, saying, “I don’t regret doing a Bond film, but I am perplexed why it has followed me around. I was only in the film for five minutes.”
The Critic star went on to comment on filmmaking practices when it comes to intimate scenes, recalling, “a sex scene was just thrown upon me. Like, ‘This is what’s going to happen,’ and I did it.”
She said such situations wouldn’t occur today thanks to intimacy coordinators.
Gemma opened up about the incident earlier this year in an interview with The Radio Times: “I remember being on a set once and the director said, ‘You’re going to shag on the bed.’ And I said, ‘No, this scene was written for us to be off-screen, so you just hear the noises. I’d never have accepted the role if it was going to be filmed.’”
“He put pressure on us on the day. The other actor, God bless him, was mortified. There were very high-profile people there,” Gemma Arterton added.
