Punjab CM holds balloting for 9,500 farmers under Green Tractor Scheme

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz held balloting to award 9,500 high-powered tractors to successful farmers in second phase of Green Tractor Programme in Lahore on Saturday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Raja Riffat Abbas of Attock, Nuzhat Parveen and Mian Naseer were among the lucky ones who received the tractor.

Maryam Nawaz congratulated the successful farmers in the balloting. The chief minister also talked to some of the winners on the phone.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif personally called the successful farmer Muhammad Ashiq of Kasur and congratulated him.

On the occasion, Secretary Agriculture gave a briefing about CM Punjab Green Tractor Programme Phase II. He briefed that landowners of 7 acres or more will be able to get tractors from 75 to 125 horsepower.

The Punjab government will provide a subsidy of Rs1 million each for high-power tractors. Subsidies will be provided on 20,000 tractors under CM Punjab Green Tractor Scheme Phase II.

About 9,500 tractors were provided under the High-Powered Tractor Scheme and 10,000 tractors were provided under the Medium-Power Scheme.

As many as 734,000 farmers applied for Green Tractors Scheme Phase II while 282,000 farmers were declared eligible for the draw and 9500 were declared successful in the draw.

About 98 percent farmers applied for Pakistani-made tractors and 2 percent farmers applied for large and modern imported tractors.

Foreign dealer companies set up dealers and business offices in Punjab due to demand for imported tractors.

In CM Punjab Green Tractors Phase II, Rs500,000 subsidy will be given on medium power tractors of 50 to 65 horsepower.
