The power distribution companies (Discos) have caused a loss of billions of rupees to the national exchequer as in the very first month of the ongoing financial year (FY), 2025-26, the total loss these companies suffered remained Rs87 billion, it was reported on Tuesday.
As per the documents available with the 24News TV channel, the companies suffered the loss of Rs41 billion in July due to the inefficiency of their staffers and power theft.
Similarly, the losses suffered under the head of power receivables in July stood at Rs46 billion.
The losses Discos had suffered in last FY due to inefficiency and power pilferage stood at Rs64 billion, while those suffered under the head of power receivables remained Rs83 billion.
However, compared with July, 2024, the Discos’ overall losses in July, 2025 came down by Rs60 billion as they stood at Rs147 billion in the first month of the last FY.
The total losses, the Discos suffered during the fiscal year, 2024-25 remained Rs397 billion, while they stood at Rs591 billion during the FY, 2023-24.
