Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab has called on citizens to actively participate in the upcoming Karachi Marathon, describing the event as a key opportunity to highlight the city’s positive image.
Speaking at a press briefing, Wahab said the marathon would help present Karachi in a favorable light both nationally and internationally. “Next year, I hope the marathon will take place inside the city, starting from Mazar-i-Quaid,” he added. “The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and the government will fully support this initiative.”
Shoaib Nizami, the organizer behind the event, confirmed that new marathon routes have been approved, allowing the race to expand further into the city. “Just as Barcelona gained international recognition after the 1992 Olympics, events like the Karachi Marathon can put our city on the world map,” Nizami said.
The 3rd Karachi Marathon, which promotes active living and attracts runners from across Pakistan and abroad, is scheduled for Sunday, January 4, 2026. The race, certified by World Athletics and the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), will start and finish at the Nishan-e-Pakistan monument on Sea View Road.
Reports indicate that over 2,000 runners have registered for the main marathon events, while registrations for the 5K race remain open, with more than 3,000 participants already signed up.
