Lahore Qalandars leave for GSL 2026 with focus on emerging talent

Lahore Qalandars owner Atif Rana has reiterated the franchise’s commitment to developing Pakistan’s next generation of cricketers, saying the team’s squad for the ExxonMobil Global Super League (GSL) 2026 has been built around young and emerging players to prepare future international stars, it was reported on Saturday.

Speaking as the team departed for Guyana on Saturday, Atif Rana said the tournament would provide valuable international exposure to promising players.

“Our GSL squad is based on youth and emerging talent, who will get the opportunity to showcase their abilities on the biggest stage and develop into future stars for Pakistan,” he said.

Experienced New Zealand all-rounder Michael Bracewell will lead the Qalandars in the tournament, which will be held from July 23 to August 1 at the Guyana National Stadium.

Atif Rana also highlighted the importance of head coach Shaun Tait in strengthening Pakistan’s fast-bowling future.

He said the former Australian pacer has extensive coaching experience and would play a key role in developing talented fast bowlers.

“Shaun Tait has helped produce quality fast bowlers during his coaching career, and we want to continue building Pakistan’s pace-bowling resources under his guidance,” he added.

Team Director Sameen Rana said appointing Bracewell as captain was a strategic decision, describing the New Zealand all-rounder as the ideal leader for a young squad because of his experience, leadership qualities, and all-round abilities.

Lahore Qalandars will begin their GSL 2026 campaign against Perth Scorchers on July 23, followed by matches against Desert Vipers on July 24, Guyana Amazon Warriors on July 26, and San Francisco Unicorns on July 29.

The tournament final is scheduled for August 1.
