UAE draws surge in Pakistani workers

A sharp shift in overseas employment trends has emerged, with a growing number of Pakistani workers choosing the United Arab Emirates as their preferred destination.

Recent official data shows that the 9,533 Pakistanis traveled to the UAE in March 2026, reflecting a 320 percent increase compared to 2,271 individuals during the same month last year. The upward trend had already gained momentum earlier in the year, with 14,035 workers heading to the UAE in February, a staggering 692 percent rise, while January recorded a 505 percent increase.

Overall, migration to the UAE during the first quarter of 2026 surged by more than 1,500 percent, indicating a major realignment in job-seeking patterns among the Pakistani workers.

In contrast, the flow of workers to Saudi Arabia witnessed a significant decline. The total number of Pakistanis traveling there dropped by 57 percent compared to the previous year. Despite the decrease, Saudi Arabia remained a key destination, with over 57,500 Pakistanis arriving in the kingdom during the first three months of 2026, including 23,366 in March alone.

Meanwhile, the other Gulf countries have also seen rising interest. Migration to Qatar increased by 110 percent, with 17,687 Pakistanis moving there in the first quarter, although a slight dip was recorded in March figures. Kuwait also experienced a modest uptick, receiving 184 Pakistani workers during the same period, up from just 41 last year.

Experts attribute this evolving trend to shifting economic conditions and employment opportunities across the Gulf region. Changes in labor demand, visa policies, and sector-specific growth are influencing workers’ decisions, encouraging them to explore alternative destinations beyond the traditional markets.

The surge towards the UAE highlights its growing appeal as a hub for employment, particularly in sectors such as construction, services, and skilled labor. Analysts believe that if current trends continue, the UAE could further strengthen its position as a leading destination for Pakistani workers seeking better economic prospects abroad.
