Punjab slashes traffic fines across all vehicles

The Punjab government has approved a major revision in traffic penalties, significantly reducing fines for motorcycles, cars, rickshaws, and heavy transport vehicles across the province.

The decision was cleared by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz after a summary submitted by the DIG Traffic Punjab, and will now be presented in the provincial assembly for final approval.

Under the revised structure, fines for motorcycles have been reduced from Rs2,000 to Rs1,000, while rickshaw penalties have dropped from Rs3,000 to Rs1,000, with serious violations set at Rs2,000.

For private cars and jeeps, penalties have been lowered from Rs5,000 to Rs3,000, although fines for overspeeding remain unchanged for all categories.

Luxury vehicles with engine capacity of 2,000cc and above will now face reduced penalties ranging between Rs2,000 and Rs10,000, down from a previous maximum of Rs20,000.

Fines for public transport vehicles such as vans, coasters, buses, and trucks have also been significantly reduced, with penalties cut from Rs20,000 to as low as Rs7,000 depending on the category.

Earlier, In Punjab, more than 100 fake websites involved in cheating citizens in the name of e-traffic challans have been blocked. According to the Punjab Safe Cities Authority, these websites were illegally collecting online payments from people by pretending to be official traffic e-challan platforms. As a result, many citizens suffered financial losses.

The authority said that these fake websites looked similar to official government portals. Citizens were misled and redirected to fake links for paying their e-traffic challans. Through these websites, personal and financial information of citizens was also being stolen, which is a serious cybercrime. Timely action was taken, and with the help of relevant departments, these fake platforms were blocked.
