Punjab government employees announce protest plan in Punjab

In a meeting of the All Government Employees Grand Alliance Punjab (AGEGA Punjab), a formal schedule for a province-wide protest movement has been issued. During the meeting, participants stated that delays and non-implementation of government commitments regarding the demands of government employees have pushed the situation toward protests.

The meeting demanded that the recommendations of the committee formed by the Chief Secretary should be made public immediately so that employees concerns can be addressed. Leaders said that without transparency, issues cannot be resolved and unrest among employees is increasing.

According to the announcement, protests will be held at the district level across Punjab in multiple phases. These demonstrations will begin on April 30 and continue on May 7, May 14, May 21 and May 28 in different stages. The leadership clarified that the protests will be organized and phased to pressure the government into accepting their demands.

The leaders also announced that during the Budget 2026–27 session, employees from across Punjab will stage a sit-in protest outside the Punjab Assembly. They stated that the protest will continue until their basic demands are accepted.

The meeting demanded the immediate restoration of cuts made in leave encashment, pensions and gratuity. They also called for a revision of pay scales, restoration of frozen house rent, medical and conveyance allowances and approval of a 30% disparity allowance from July 1, 2025.

Furthermore, they demanded an immediate end to the outsourcing of educational institutions and hospitals and the restoration of the Regularization Act to permanently absorb contract employees.

The leaders accused the government of economic exploitation of employees and failure to implement previous promises leading to widespread unrest among workers. They warned that if demands are not accepted, the protest movement will be expanded further.

The meeting was attended by several leaders including Shamim Zafar, Arshad Dudd, Professor Tariq Baloch, Munir Sandhu, Mirza Tariq, Syed Mudassar, Ijaz Hussain, Sarfraz Hashmi, Muhammad Hasnain, Sajid Bashir, Umar Mughal, Muhammad Saleem, Syed Hasnain Rizvi, Abdul Jabbar and others.
