Turkey signals possible role in Hormuz mine clearance

Hakan Fidan, the Foreign Minister of Turkey, has indicated that the country may consider taking part in clearing naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz following a potential agreement between the United States and Iran.

Speaking to international media, Fidan explained that specialized technical teams from several countries would likely handle the mine-clearing operations. He emphasized that Turkey views such efforts as part of its humanitarian responsibility, especially when they contribute to regional stability and the safety of global maritime routes.

Fidan also suggested that cooperation on this issue could help reduce tensions in the region and ensure the uninterrupted flow of international trade, as the Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical oil transit chokepoints. While no final decision has been announced, Turkey appears open to supporting multinational efforts aimed at securing the waterway.

His remarks highlight Ankara’s willingness to play a constructive role in post-agreement regional initiatives, particularly those that combine security objectives with humanitarian concerns.
