Oil prices mixed in Asia as Brent, US crude edge higher

LONDON: Crude oil prices showed a mixed trend in Asian trade, while benchmark prices in the United States and Britain moved higher amid continued volatility in global energy markets.

British benchmark Brent Crude was trading at $105.58 per barrel, reflecting firmness in international oil markets, while US benchmark West Texas Intermediate rose to $95.81 per barrel.

Market analysts said energy prices remained sensitive to geopolitical developments and supply concerns, contributing to continued fluctuations in crude markets.

Meanwhile, Asian equity markets presented a mixed performance.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 advanced 0.97 per cent, while Malaysia’s FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI posted a modest 0.08 per cent gain.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index also rose 0.48 per cent, reflecting selective investor optimism.

However, some regional markets remained under pressure.

Indonesia’s Jakarta Composite Index recorded a sharp 3.38 per cent decline, while China’s Shanghai Composite slipped 0.33 per cent.
