The crisis of government flour has become serious in Lahore, while the Punjab government has left the poor at the mercy of inflation, it was reported on Wednesday.
According to Lahore Grocery Merchants Association President Hafiz Arif, not even a single bag of 10 and 20 kg flour is available in the city’s open market.
There is a daily demand of 200,000 bags of 10 and 20 kg flour in Lahore, but not a single government bag is being supplied to the Lahore market.
Citizens are forced to buy a 15 kg bag of flour from flour mills for Rs1,450 to Rs1,650.
The government was earlier giving wheat worth Rs4,100 to flour mills at Rs3,000 per ton.
Flour mills used to supply 10 and 20 kg bags at the official price after purchasing government wheat.
The official rate for 10 kg of flour was Rs910, and the rate for 20 kg was Rs1810.
Now the government is not supplying wheat to flour mills.
