Increase in import bill widened trade deficit in April 2026, says Aurangzeb

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said on Thursday that an increase in the country’s trade deficit was recorded in April 2026 owing to an increase in import bill.

Briefing the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Finance, which met with Syed Naveed Qamar in the chair, on the country’s economic situation, the minister said that the bill had increased due to tensions in the Gulf.

He further said that the targets set for financial deficit, primary surplus and current account deficit would be achieved during the ongoing fiscal year.

Aurangzeb informed that oil containers logistics and insurance as well as Roshan Digital Accounts had also increased.

He went on to say that the government was going to issue Panda Bond worth $250 million. “The government has repaid amounts to the UAE.”
