Talks between the United States and Iran could resume as early as next week in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad, reported Wall Street Journal.
Citing people familiar with the matter, the Journal said both sides are working with mediators on a one-page, 14-point memorandum of understanding that would outline the framework for a month-long negotiation process aimed at ending the war.
The draft is said to include discussions on Iran’s nuclear programme, easing tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, and the possible transfer of Iran’s highly enriched uranium stockpiles to another country.
“Key issues remain unresolved,” it noted.
The report added that the extent of sanctions relief remains a major point of contention and could still derail talks. If negotiations move forward, the initial one-month framework could be extended by mutual agreement, according to the Journal.
