Budget proposals: AGEGA announces sit-ins in Islamabad on June 4 and 5

Government employees under the banner of the All Government Employees Grand Alliance (AGEGA) have announced sit-ins in Islamabad during the presentation of the Federal Budget 2026-27, intensifying pressure on the government to address long-standing demands related to salaries, pensions and service conditions.

A protest demonstration will be held outside the Ministry of Finance on June 4, followed by a sit-in outside Parliament House on June 5. Delegations of government employees from across the country are expected to take part in the demonstrations.

Presenting its charter of demands, AGEGA called on the government to ensure immediate implementation of all provisions of the agreement reached on 10 March 2025.

The alliance also demanded that all ad hoc relief allowances be merged into basic pay and that a new Pay Scale 2026 be introduced for public sector employees.

The alliance further urged the government to incorporate a 100% Ad Hoc Relief Allowance 2026 into employees’ salaries. It also sought a 50% increase in pay for workers earning less than Rs50,000 per month.

Among its other demands, AGEGA called for a 200% increase in conveyance, medical and house rent allowances. The alliance argued that rising living costs have placed significant financial pressure on government employees and their families.

The employees’ representatives also demanded the withdrawal of pension reforms and the continuation of the existing pension system.

They further called for the restoration of employment opportunities for the children of government employees who die while in service.

To reduce disparities in salaries among different categories of public servants, the alliance requested an additional 30% Disparity Reduction Allowance.

AGEGA also demanded the abolition of the 25% tax slab imposed on teachers and researchers and sought the refund of deductions already made under the measure.

In addition, it urged the government to take immediate steps to regularise daily-wage and contract employees working in public sector institutions.

The alliance further proposed that the minimum monthly wage for government employees should be fixed at Rs50,000.

It also called for the formation of joint committees for institutions included in the government’s privatisation programme to safeguard the interests of workers.
