The federal government has introduced a new compensation mechanism for officers of the Power Division, replacing the longstanding facility of free electricity with a fixed cash payment calculated at Rs. 30 per unit.
The revised policy will apply to officers from Basic Pay Scale (BS) 17 to BS-21. Under the new arrangement, eligible officials will receive the amount equivalent to the electricity units previously provided to them free of cost.
According to the revised structure, BS-17 officers will be entitled to Rs. 15,858, corresponding to 450 electricity units. Officers in BS-18 will receive Rs. 21,990 against an entitlement of 600 units.
For BS-19 officers, the government has fixed a payment of Rs. 37,594 in place of the earlier allowance of 880 free electricity units. BS-20 officers will receive Rs. 46,992, replacing the previous benefit equivalent to 1,100 units.
Meanwhile, officers in BS-21 will be provided Rs. 55,536 under the revised compensation system.
The change comes after the discontinuation of free electricity facilities for eligible officials following a High Court ruling. The Power Division has formally notified the withdrawal of the free electricity arrangement, bringing an end to the previous system of providing specified electricity units without charge.
Under the earlier mechanism, eligible Power Division employees were allowed a fixed number of free electricity units based on their pay scale. The new policy converts that benefit into a monetary payment, with the value determined at Rs. 30 per unit.
The government’s decision is aimed at replacing the existing electricity benefit with a standardized financial allowance following the court-related changes. The revised mechanism will now determine the compensation of officers according to their respective pay scales and previously sanctioned electricity-unit entitlements.
