22 wounded in incidents of roof, wall collapse as thundershowers batter Punjab

As many as 22 people were injured in different incidents of roof and wall collapse as heavy rain accompanied by strong winds lashed different parts of Punjab on Friday night, it was reported on Saturday.

Two people, including nine-year-old Ayesha, were injured in Chunian after wall of their house collapsed due to rain and strong winds.

As soon as they received information, Rescue 1122 staffers rushed to the site, provided first aid to Ayesha and 20-year-old Shan and later shifted them to Bhale Shah DHQ Hospital in Kasur.

Rescuers said both Ayesha and Shan received injuries in their heads.

On the other hand, 20 people were injured in seven incidents of roof collapse in Faisalabad.

Over 30 trees were also uprooted due to strong winds that buffeted the city and its surroundings.

Trees were uprooted at Summundri Road, Canal Road, Satyana Road and others.

More rain forecast for Islamabad, Lahore 

The weather department on Saturday again forecast thundershowers for Islamabad and Lahore.

The maximum temperature in the federal capital was expected to touch the 33 degrees Celsius mark in the afternoon, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 23.

Yesterday’s rain provided much-needed respite to the people of the city from scorching heat as the temperature recorded on Saturday morning was below average.

Similarly, temperatures dipped in Lahore due to heavy rain and strong winds that pounded the city and its outskirts for two consecutive days.

The weather department said that the maximum temperature would rise to 33 degrees Celsius in the afternoon, while it was 23 degrees Celsius on the minimum side.

Winds were blowing in the city at the speed of 10 kilometers per hour, while the level of moisture in the air stood at 78 per cent.

Upper parts of country to receive rain today

The Met Office predicted that Kashmir, upper KP, north and central Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan would receive rain during the next 24 hours.
