Israel has faced another diplomatic setback after the United States declined its request to review the draft of a proposed agreement with Iran. According to American media reports, Israeli officials asked Washington to share the text of the emerging deal, but the US administration refused to provide the document. Instead, American officials briefed Israel on the general framework and key points of the negotiations.
The development comes as the United States and Iran prepare to sign a historic preliminary agreement on Friday. The signing ceremony will take place in the Swiss resort town of Bürgenstock, with Pakistan hosting the event.
A report by Bloomberg revealed several details of the memorandum of understanding. Under the proposed arrangement, the United States will not impose restrictions on Iranian oil exports or the banking services linked to the country’s energy trade. Both sides have also agreed to maintain the current situation while they continue negotiations toward a final agreement.
The two countries aim to reach a comprehensive deal within 60 days. During this period, Iran will continue operating its existing nuclear programme, while Washington has committed to avoiding new sanctions and refraining from increasing its military presence in the region.
