Punjab govt grants autonomy to Countering Violent Extremism Center

Taking an important step for the elimination of extremism in the province, on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the provincial government on Thursday granted autonomy to the Punjab Centre of Excellence on Countering Violent Extremism (CoE-CVE).

The government also approved the recommendation to amend the law for the purpose.

The government also increased the powers of the center.

According to the documents available with the 24News TV channel, now the center has the status of a body corporate, which will have the powers to hold and purchase moveable and immoveable properties as well as file cases with the prior approval of the government.

Officials have expressed the hope that amendments in the law will enhance the capacity of the center and will also strengthen its governance.
