PPP demands 10pc salary hike for government employees in budget proposal

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has called for increasing government employees’ salaries by 10 percent, terming the proposed 7 percent raise insufficient amid rising economic pressures.

Speaking in the National Assembly, former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said that government employees, pensioners, and those associated with the agriculture sector are directly impacted by the federal budget and remain under consistent financial strain.

He noted that while the business community adjusts prices in line with inflation, the ultimate burden falls on consumers, further intensifying economic pressure on households.

Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said the government’s proposed 7 percent increase in salaries was inadequate, adding that PPP had previously supported much higher increases in pay and pensions, including adjustments of up to 100 percent in earlier periods.

He urged the government to revise the salary increase from 7 percent to 10 percent in order to provide meaningful relief to public sector employees and pensioners affected by inflation.
