India’s silence on Gaza ‘cannot be justified, says Sonia Gandhi

Senior Indian National Congress leader Sonia Gandhi has strongly criticized the Indian government’s silence over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, saying New Delhi’s stance cannot be justified either morally or rationally.

According to Indian media reports, Sonia Gandhi made the remarks in an opinion article published in The Indian Express.

She said the Narendra Modi government’s continued silence on what she described as “genocidal actions” in Gaza was unacceptable.

Gandhi said that more than two and a half years after the “completely unacceptable” attack by the Israeli military on Gaza’s innocent people, it had become clear that Israel’s military response had been marked by extreme brutality.

Referring to the ongoing conflict, she said Israel’s actions had gone far beyond self-defence and raised serious humanitarian concerns.

She also alleged that senior Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, had called for a complete siege of Gaza and used dehumanizing language against Palestinians.

Gandhi further claimed that the administration of US President Donald Trump had enabled Israel to continue its military campaign against Palestinians.

According to the article, Gandhi said these developments had shaken the conscience of people around the world, while questioning the Indian government’s continued silence on the issue.

According to the figures cited in the reports, more than 73,000 people have been killed in Gaza since the conflict escalated.
