Pakistan’s weekly inflation decreases by 0.98pc

Pakistan’s short-term inflation has decreased by 0.98% for the week ended July 2, 2026.

According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Friday, the major decrease is observed in the prices of Petrol (19.77%), Diesel (17.73%), LPG (12.60%), Chicken (1.97%), Bananas (1.44%), Pulse Moong (1.29%), Pulse Mash (0.84%), Garlic (0.63%), Pulse Gram (0.23%) and Mustard Oil & Sugar (0.21%) each.

On the other hand, major increase is observed in the prices of Tomatoes (125.40%), Onions (10.72%), Potatoes (10.06%), Eggs (8.32%), Wheat Flour (5.08%), Match Box (0.96%), Shirting (0.87%), Washing Soap (0.63%), Milk Fresh (0.49%), Bread (0.47%), Rice IRRI-6/9 (0.45%) and Cigarettes (0.23%).

During the week, out of 51 items, prices of 23 (45.10%) items increased, 11 (21.57%) items decreased, and 17 (33.33%) items remained stable.

On an annual basis, the SPI showed a year-on-year (YoY) increase of 13.52%.

Major increase is observed in the prices of Tomatoes (238.72%), Onions (80.96%), Wheat Flour (68.47%), Electricity Charges for Q1 (49.14%), LPG (44.08%), Gas Charges for Q1 (29.85%), Gents Sponge Chappal (16.69%), Mutton (16.06%), Chilies Powder (15.20%), Beef (12.89%), Bananas (10.53%) and Bread (9.18%)

However, a major decrease is observed in the prices of Potatoes (36.60%), Pulse Gram (22.11%), Sugar (19.42%), Salt Powder (14.09%), Pulse Masoor (12.32%), Eggs (9.30%), Chicken (6.96%), and Pulse Moong (6.06%).

The average price of Sona Urea stood at Rs 4,647 per 50 kg bag, which is 0.31% lower than last week’s price, and up 4.82% compared to last year.

Meanwhile, the average Cement price is at Rs1,499 per 50 kg bag, which is 0.23% lower than the previous week, and 6.81% higher than prices last year.

The SPI, which tracks price movements of 51 essential commodities from 50 markets across 17 cities, serves as a key barometer of short-term inflation trends in Pakistan.
