Reacting to the presser addressed by senior MQM-P leader Farooq Sattar, Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said on Saturday that his (Farooq) invitation to the federal government to intervene in provincial affairs was political blackmailing.
He termed Farooq’s statement in which he had said that Karachi be placed under the Center’s control a ‘conspiracy’ against the federation.
He opined that even today, MQM-P leadership believed in the politics of short-cuts rather than getting people’s mandate because it had lost the trust of the masses. “If the party wants more share in power, then it will have to bear this thing in mind that these are people’s votes which will help it achieve its goal,” Memon said, adding, “Asking the federal government to interfere or dragging the state institutions into political matters is an exercise in futility.”
He said that Farooq must bear this thing in mind that the people of Sindh had given a clear-cut mandate to the PPP, which could not be changed through any press conference, threat or political blackmailing.
The minister asked the MQM-P to tell why it had failed to keep the promises it made to the people of the city especially when it had representation in the federal government. “Farooq should refrain from holding the provincial government responsible for his party’s failures.”
The minister, on the occasion, vowed not to compromise on the mandate of the people of Karachi, Sindh’s constitutional powers and provincial autonomy.
