LONDON: Defending Wimbledon champion Jannik Sinner produced a commanding display to end Novak Djokovic’s pursuit of a historic 25th Grand Slam title, defeating the Serbian legend in straight sets to storm into the men’s singles final at the All England Club.
The Italian star delivered one of his finest performances on grass, overcoming the 39-year-old Djokovic 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in a high-quality semifinal that showcased Sinner’s growing dominance on the biggest stages of world tennis.
With the victory, Sinner not only secured another Wimbledon final appearance but also shattered Djokovic’s hopes of capturing a record-extending 25th Grand Slam crown, a milestone that has remained one of the Serbian great’s biggest ambitions.
From the opening game, Sinner dictated the pace with aggressive baseline hitting and exceptional serving. He fired 16 aces during the contest and was nearly untouchable on his first serve, surrendering only six points throughout the match. His powerful groundstrokes repeatedly forced Djokovic onto the defensive, leaving the veteran struggling to find answers.
Djokovic, a multiple-time Wimbledon champion renowned for his resilience and tactical brilliance, fought hard in every set but failed to create enough opportunities to turn the momentum in his favour. Despite flashes of his trademark brilliance, the Serbian was unable to cope with Sinner’s relentless pressure and clinical execution.
Meanwhile, Germany’s Alexander Zverev booked his place in the Wimbledon final after ending the impressive run of British wildcard Arthur Fery. The second seed claimed a convincing 7-6(6), 6-2, 6-4 victory to reach his maiden Wimbledon final.
The triumph also marked a historic achievement for German tennis, making Zverev the first German man since Boris Becker in 1995 to reach the Wimbledon singles final.
Sunday’s championship match now promises a fascinating showdown between two of the sport’s biggest stars. Sinner will be chasing the fifth Grand Slam title of his career and a successful defence of his Wimbledon crown, while Zverev will aim to add the prestigious grass-court title to his growing list of achievements after his recent success at the French Open.
With both players in outstanding form and history on the line, the Wimbledon men’s final is set to deliver one of the most anticipated clashes of the tennis season, as a new chapter in modern tennis unfolds on Centre Court.
