Cotton prices surge by Rs400 per maund

The cotton prices have recorded an increase during the past week and according to the Cotton Ginners Forum the trend is persisting, it was reported on Monday.

The price of cotton went up by Rs400 per maund (40 kilograms), hiking the rate to Rs18,200 in Punjab.

However, in Sindh, the cotton was traded at up to Rs17,700 per maund.

Chairman of the Cotton Ginners Forum Ahsan-ul-Haq said that the cotton crop is facing difficulties because of record-high temperatures in the growing areas.

He added that the Agriculture Department has advised farmers to reduce the duration of irrigation and apply light watering to protect the crop.

The department has also advised farmers to spray micronutrients on their cotton fields to help the crop stay healthy during the extreme heat.
