The Punjab government has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting women’s empowerment by expanding vocational training and welfare programmes aimed at improving employment opportunities and strengthening women’s financial independence across the province.
Speaking at a one-day beautician training workshop in Attock, District Health Committee (DHC) Chairman Malik Hameed Akbar Khan said the provincial government is focusing on practical skill development to enable women to become economically self-reliant and contribute more effectively to society.
The workshop was organised by the Department of Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Maal at Sanat Zar, with support from a private beauty products company. The programme provided free professional training to women interested in learning beautician skills and exploring career opportunities in the beauty and wellness industry.
Participants received hands-on instruction in beauty treatments, skincare, makeup application and other salon-related techniques. Professional trainers guided the participants through practical demonstrations, allowing them to gain valuable experience that could help them secure employment or establish their own businesses.
Addressing the participants, Malik Hameed Akbar Khan said Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has placed special emphasis on women’s professional development and economic empowerment. He said the provincial government believes that providing women with vocational education is essential for reducing unemployment, supporting families and strengthening the local economy.
He noted that vocational institutions play an important role in preparing women for the job market by equipping them with practical skills that are in demand. According to him, such initiatives help women generate independent sources of income while increasing their confidence and participation in economic activities.
The event was attended by local political representatives, women’s wing leaders and officials associated with Sanat Zar, who encouraged participants to benefit fully from the training and utilise the skills for future employment opportunities.
Malik Hameed Akbar Khan also assured participants that efforts would continue to improve vocational training facilities and expand skill-development programmes across the province. He said strengthening institutions such as Sanat Zar would create more opportunities for women and support long-term economic growth.
Participants appreciated the initiative and said free vocational training programmes provide valuable opportunities for women who wish to become financially independent. Many expressed hope that similar workshops would be organised regularly in other districts to help more women develop professional skills and improve their livelihoods.
