The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) launched a large-scale operation against illegal commercial properties in LDA-controlled areas on Sunday, sealing 152 buildings during enforcement drives carried out across multiple parts of the city.
The operation was conducted on the directions of LDA Director General Tahir Farooq, with the Town Planning Wing intensifying action against unauthorized commercial activities and property owners who failed to pay commercialisation fees.
LDA teams carried out inspections and enforcement operations along Canal Road, Samanabad, New Muslim Town, College Road, Allama Iqbal Town, and Faisal Town. During the campaign, 50 properties in Canal Road, Samanabad, and New Muslim Town were sealed for unauthorized commercial use, while another 80 properties on College Road were sealed for similar violations.
As part of a separate recovery drive, authorities also sealed 14 properties in Allama Iqbal Town and eight in Faisal Town over outstanding commercialisation dues.
The sealed properties included private schools, cash-and-carry stores, cafés, restaurants, food outlets, electrical and hardware shops, bakeries, beauty salons, clinics, auto workshops, retail shops, offices, and other commercial establishments operating in violation of LDA regulations.
The operation was supervised by Chief Town Planner-I Asad-uz-Zaman and Chief Town Planner-II Azhar Ali. According to the LDA, indiscriminate action against illegal commercial buildings and commercial fee defaulters will continue to ensure compliance with planning and zoning laws across Lahore.
