The federal government has reduced the profit rates on various National Savings Pakistan schemes, according to an official notification issued on Saturday. Under the newly revised structure, the annual profit rate on the Behbood Savings Certificate and the Pensioners’ Benefit Account has been fixed at 12.96 percent.
The monthly profit rate on the Regular Income Certificate has also been scaled down to 11.52 percent. Consequently, an investment of 100,000 rupees in this specific scheme will now yield a monthly profit return of 960 rupees.
For the Special Savings Certificate, the government has set the return rate at 11.2 percent for the first six months of investment, which rises to 12.6 percent for the remaining six months of the term. The annual profit rate on the Shuhada Family Welfare Account has similarly been adjusted downwards to 12.96 percent.
National Savings remains one of the oldest financial institutions in the country, holding a legacy of more than 140 years since its inception under the Government Savings Bank Act of 1873. The institution operates primarily to promote personal thrift and mobilise domestic savings, acting as a preferred destination for small-scale savers looking for secure financial returns.
