Punjab has rolled out a cashless payment system for its public transport network, introducing the eTransit Punjab App and the T-Cash Card to let commuters travel across metro and electric bus services without cash or long queues, it was reported on Saturday.
The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) announced the initiative describing it as a joint effort with the Punjab Transport Department and the Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMA).
The electronic fare collection system is designed to make commuting faster, more secure and more convenient by removing the need for cash payments and token purchases.
Commuters can use either the T-Cash Card or the eTransit Punjab mobile application to access metro bus and electric bus services through a single digital platform.
Officials said the system is intended to streamline fare collection and reduce waiting times, offering passengers a smoother overall travel experience.
PITB Chairman Faisal Yousaf called the launch a significant milestone in the digital transformation of Punjab transportation.
He said the goal is to give citizens a secure and modern travel experience through technology, adding that PITB remains committed to introducing digital solutions that improve the efficiency, transparency and accessibility of public services.
